Nest Homeboy Featured on NPR

Nest Homeboy — our trauma-informed childcare program in downtown LA, run in partnership with Homeboy Industries and UCLA for families navigating reentry and recovery — was recently featured on NPR. The story first aired on KCRW and was re-aired last week on KQED’s The California Report.

Reporter Clare Wiley spoke with our Director of Research & Global Health, Dr. Xinshu She, about why Nest programs let children lead — empowering them as capable learners instead of directing their behavior. As Dr. She explained, trauma teaches kids to stop believing in themselves; this participatory approach is how they learn to trust their own voice again.
